I had a rather late start today, not arriving at the trail head til about 230. Decided to go straight to Noble Knob and catch the lakes at another time. The switchback road leading up to the trailhead was very rough.
Trekking poles were very helpful as some paths were very narrow and rocky and a slip could end you a nasty fall. The bugs(mosquitoes) were terrible. They werent too bad long as you were moving but soon as you stopped they were merciless, piling on me and my dog. Bug spray a must! I wouldnt say now is a good time to have a picnic up there just bc of the nasty biting bugs. The view was spectacular!!! not too many ppl on the trail, enough to know there was someone around somewhere but most of the time i was alone. Trail courtesy was execllent!
It was hard to figure out some of the trails to take and i made several wrong turns, specifically right where a rocky crag juts in front of you and it seems like your only options is to daringly attempt to not die while crawling and sliding down it to connect with the trail you see across the way. All in all it was great and very satisfying. The weather was clear, sunny and alot of the trail was shaded. No mud where i went.
