This is a great hike! I thought that the combination of sunny weather and the weekend would inevitably make this hike uncomfortably busy. I was wrong. Although my group passed a couple dozen other hikers and the lot at the trailhead was overflowing, there didn't seem to be many people around and for a while, we were the only group at the falls.
Although the bugs are out just about everywhere this time of year (and this is no exception), I didn't have any other issues. The trail is completely clear of snow/mud/water/blowdowns and is well-maintained.
There were some confused hikers- the trailhead is a simple metal gate keeping cars out- but you're in the right spot. To go to otter falls, take the right when you come to a fork (probably about a half mile in) and then watch for the rock pile and small sign for the right as you near the falls (you're almost there!)
I absolutely recommend jumping in for a swim! I'm not one for cold water but this was perfect, especially on the warm summer day! Enjoy!
We didn't continue hiking the last section to Big Creek Falls (although I wish we had). The sun was beginning to set since we started our day late and took our time enjoying the falls and lake.
Definitely a hike that I'd recommend!
