Had never been to nor heard of Lake Valhalla until I picked up my hike book on Friday night. Glad I stumbled upon this one. The trail (the PCT) is in great shape for the 5.5 miles to the lake. It was relatively easy, and we were able to do it in about 2 hours both ways. There are ample stream crossings and meadows to cruise through on your way up to keep things interesting.

The lake was gorgeous, albeit a little more crowded than I prefer, but the company was pleasant. The bugs are not too thick to enjoy yourself, but they will constantly bite you if you stand still. And, given the temperatures, they don't go away in the evening. The water is cold, but you'll get used to it, so jump in! I swam far from the shore, and it was very pleasant (minus the severe "shrinkage").

Lake Valhalla is perfect right now. Check it out, on a weekday if you can.
