DNR Trail in the sun!
What an awesome hike. We started out on the main trail to Wallace Lake, but was interrupted by a rude hiker complaining about our dogs. So we detoured up the DNR trail to avoid her and ended up on the bike trail ride up the back roads. It was a long gradual hike and lots of sun! We came to the top and headed toward the Falls. We actually ended up doing a full loop and going down from the top past all three falls areas. It turned out to be a 13 mile hike. Having the main attraction at the end of that hike was awesome.
The dogs were wore out. So were we! The weather could not have been better and the sun went down just after we finished.
Other than the stupid leash laws, we had a blast. Our dogs are never on leash during hikes. they have more fun and we are not in danger of injury when taking on tough terrain. Having your dog on leash is foolish and dangerous for both of you. If your dog is not ready to follow the rules of hiking then they should not yet be there. We had 4 dogs today that all stayed on trail and behaved well with others. Not every dog is a bad dog needing a leash. Kids are just as foolish, destructive and dangerous. So please, dont even mention it to us when we are there.
Happy trails!

please respect leash rules - don't ruin it for the rest of us

I respect your desire to have your dogs off leash, and there are trails where that is allowed. Folks who insist on going off-leash on very busy trails that are posted as requiring that dogs be on leashes end up pissing off lots of people who are agitating to disallow dogs entirely. So I don't respect your choice to leave your dogs unleashed on this trail; in fact I resent what you are imposing on others.

So the rules aren't for you?

"Pets are allowed in most state parks, but must be under physical control at all times on a leash no more than eight feet long. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets."-http://www.parks.wa.gov/rules/

Great reading material!

Please post more trip reports, I got a great laugh out this one! I'm sure you guys just took your dogs off leash for the pictures and posted the report tongue in cheek, nobody can honestly be that far out of touch with reality in their daily life! Amazing work in using irony and displays of hypocrisy to aid in pointing out the sense of entitlement that some dog owners can exhibit, it's really too bad sometimes because I'm sure they are nice people otherwise... but I guess you just can't be sure! I can't wait for more!

Be considerate of others

Dogs must be leashed for the safety and enjoyment of everyone on the trail. There are hikers who are fearful of dogs, no matter how harmless and well-behaved you think your dogs are. I've been jumped on, sniffed and startled by dogs running through the woods with no owner in sight. I very much appreciate leashed and well behaved dogs, but unleashed ones are just a nuisance to all.

It's foolish not leashing the dogs

There are many risks not leashing the dogs on the trails: running away after wild animals, falling from cliffs, waterfalls, fighting with leashed dogs who do not want to be bothered. You can find story in this site about dog startled on the trail and ran away. I have two dogs that are good on recall but I won't let them off leash for these reasons and also people who aren't comfortable around dogs.

Not cool.

My heart sank reading this trip report as I thought about the poor hiker you chastised here and how she probably just wanted to enjoy a nice day on the trails.

Please try to think of it from another person's perspective other than from your own. We don't know your dogs. When an unleashed dog comes bounding at me on the trail, I don't know what's going to happen. That is scary.

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
