A deep rut on the Moab Trail caused by poor trail design. R.Ojerio
While out scoping trail work projects for WTA's March events I noted a section on the Moab trail where we have a deep rut to fix. Over on the Maui Falls trail the section of trail we decomissioned is recovering nicely. The new route loops down a ridge and does a better job of shedding water to minimize erosion.

The entire loop is open and hikeable. Look for orange flagging to guide you around sections that have been closed off for restoration on the bottom of Maui Falls. We've also done some work on the nearby Labyrinth Trail and more is planned in March.

Dog lovers take note: there is a leash law in effect during the spring. It is a sensitive time for ground nesting birds, please help keep the native fauna populations healthy by using a leash.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
