In resonse to Mike
Littlefield's 5-3-98 report, Yes this is a busy trail. I had not previously hiked this trail to the lake, but had used it partially as an approach to Silver Peak. It was a family affair alright that included the household pet, however I always enjoy the variety of people I meet along the trails. The snow gullies are allmost clear of snow as well as the campsites around the lake which is still covered with a light crust of snow that is breaking up fast. Trail is snow covered the last 1/8 mile to the lake. The wind fall has not yet been cleared at three locations, but no major problems in navigationg around them. Thers a lot of runoff at the lower Humpback Creek bridge crossings, whigh is very impressive, and streams are seen running on either side of the lake. Just for informational purposes, I took a survey to see how many cars ant the trailhead had 1998 Trail Park Permits. 5 of 33 vehicles had permits displayed.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
