Hike: Lake Twentytwo - Lake 22
Region: North Cascades -- Mountain Loop Highway
Agency: Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest, Darrington Ranger District
Trails: Lake 22 (#702)
Avg Rating: 4.02

Dear Friends,
Looking for a short hike to do with my teenage son and daughter, I chose Lake Twenty-two. While the scenery at the lake is excellent, I thought the trail leading to it was not. The rockiness that litters most of the trail was, in my opinion, so bad that - even with excellent foot wear, which all of us have - our feet took a serious beating and our enjoyment of the hike was impaired. Is there anything that can be done about it' Perhaps not. Otherwise, very uneventful. There was much water on the trail from Spring snow melt (to be expected) and, except for the muddiness that is created, and the poor footing, the outing was a moderate success. - Bill

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
