The trail to the Basin from the White River campgroundis snow-free and in great shape about half way. After that, patchy snow and then 75% snow. Thebasin has one or two campsites bare, but wait acouple weeks until it's clear.

While we were in the neighborhood, we decided tokeep on hiking past the basin to the Inter Glacier. The climbers trail is bare in spots, and it decentcondition.

Heck, long as were so close, we kept going up toCamp Schurman. The glacier was fogged in Friday butpassable, and with fresh snow and good climbingconditions. Very windy though!

Not quite having enough exercise, and suffering fromhigh altitude craziness, we woke up at midnight and saw nothing but stars. Sowe climbed up the Emmons Glacier to the summit ofthe Cascade range. Calm winds, great ""cramponing"" snow, and only one tricky crevasse at about 13400'. The badweather had turned into absolutely perfect weather!

And so we hiked back down to Glacier Basin once again...

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
