Hike: Heather Lake (near Lake Wenatchee)
Region: Central Cascades -- Stevens Pass - East
Agency: Okanogan-Wenatchee Natiomal Forest, Wenatchee River Ranger District, Leavenworth
Trails: Heather Lake (#1526)
Avg Rating: 3.67

As the day dawned
with clouds and drizzle, we were glad to be going to the dry side of the Cascades. After a long drive to the trailhead, we started up the trail in ideal eastside conditions 70deg, and partly sunny. The trail was an easy walk for the first 1.5mi, then steepened for about 1 mi. Then a nearly level hike to the lake. Overall, the trail was is great shape. We only saw 3 other parties on this trip, which was amazing. We ate lunch in filtered sunshine at the outlet, watching ""wetter"" Washington billowing over the crest and down to about 500ft above the lake. We easily crossed the outlet and started along the brushy boot trail toward Glasses Lk. We reached the inlet stream to Heather Lk and tried some fishing (no luck). At this point the clouds and drizzle were reaching the lake level, so we called it a day and hiked back to the car - leaving the drizzle behind - until we drove across Stevens Pass!

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
