Hike: Bandera Mountain
Region: Snoqualmie Pass -- Snoqualmie Pass
Agency: Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Snoqualmie Ranger District
Trails: Bandera Mountain (#1038)
Avg Rating: 4.12

Started from the trailhead around 11:00, after an aborted attempt to climb Snoqualmie Mtn. from Alpental...snow too steep...suddenly felt too alone! My first visit to Bandera, this was really fun. Snow started at about 3200 feet, trail is snowfree until going straight up. I experienced rain turning to snow on the ridge, and admired a nice cloud right in my face at the summit. I did catch a small peek of the highway and still-frozen Mason Lake below. Now for the best part: a fun glissade taking me nearly to where the trail leaves the old roadbed. Oh Bandera, I hardly knew ye!

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
