Snow on trail

A group of six of us hiked from Stuart Lake trail head over Aasgard Pass over a couple snow fields following cairns. We hiked on snow through the uppper Enchantment Basin but were able to navigate everything pretty safely with only one of our party having an ice axe. There was a difficult run out coming down into Inspiration Lake. Fishing was great. We saw two groups of Mountain goats who were quite friendly. From Perfection Lake we took the short hike up to Prusik Pass and looked down on Shield Lake but were unable to see any safe route down as the slope was totally snow covered. The lower basin lakes were free of snow but there was one difficult descent off of rock or snow down into Vivian. We had one of our party slide down a slope, escaping with minor injuries, caught by some trees. The dam between Upper and Lower Snow Lakes was under water but we made it by going barefoot. The water was fine! Bugs were really thick. It was a really beautiful trip enjoyed by all.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
