Blowdowns
Overgrown

The trail up to Borealis Pass has quite a few blowdowns right where it leaves the Snowbrush Creek trail.

Go straight up on the left side of the creek & when you reach a small meadow cross the creek and up towards a rock outcrop. The trail is overgrown but the tread is visible once you reach the rock outcrop.

From there the trail winds thru the rock slope and up to where it crosses the creek in the next meadow. The best camp sites are in a small meadow about 400 feet to the left of the creek.

The trail from this point was covered by snow but the pass is visable and was an easy to pick up in the pummice slope.

From the pass, the trail is in poor condition and decends along steep switchbacks to the meadow below and five star camping.

From this point the tread is very vague and traverses meadows along a small valley. Once in the timber there is considerable blowdown but it is fairly easy going. The tread is regained in the timber so route finding is easy. The trail crosses several slide areas with quite a bit of brush. About a 1,000 ft above the Entiat Valley the trail crosses a small meadow with hugh spruce trees and water.

From this point the trail decends steeply into the Entiat Valley. The junction is not signed, but the tread up the driveway is well defined.

This hike was part of a five day trip from Shady Pass along Entiat Ridge. This trail was the best part of the trip as it had great views, flowers and fabulous camping sites.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
