Walked Andy Creek, to Russell Ridge Trail and the Ironstone Trail to McNeil Peak-a little over 10 miles round trip. Saw a herd of cow elk and newborns in the meadows from which Muddy Creek flows, later watched two branch antlered bulls graze a hillside for 40 minutes. Also saw a big buck and a little buck, marmots, a coyote, and a plethora of smaller wildlife. Andy Creek Trail has been maintained, when the Ironstone Trail turns northerly, there's a lot of snow in places-but is melting fast given the warm weather of the past week. Excellent views of Goat Rocks, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, the Tumac Plateau and some of the mountains in the Rattlesnake Creek drainage-wished I'd brought my overnight gear.
