Hike: Eightmile Lake
Region: Central Cascades -- Leavenworth Area
Agency: Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest - Wenatchee District
Trails: Eightmile Lake (#1552)
Avg Rating: 3.36

After aborting my ill-fated attempt at Chatter Creek Trail at 10 AM, I decided to try the Eightmile Trail. It was a highway compared to Chatter Creek. The trail was in good shape and the ascent to Little Eightmile Lake was moderate. But it took me more than 1.5 hours to reach the first lake--slower than I had hoped. I may have been tired from the other effort. The scenery was nice, but not spectacular. I'm sure I would be more enthused if I could have gone on to Lake Caroline and Windy Pass. But my scheduled rendeveau with family in Leavenworth made me decide to explore those options another time.

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
