Be Aware Of
Blowdowns

The Eightmile trail has a few blowdowns, but is nearly snow-free to the lake. There are no difficulties, and this gentle trail (except for the first 1/2 mile) is a good destination at this time of year.

Eightmile Lake was dammed many years ago, and you can view the remains at the outlet.

We continued around the right side of the lake, passing a large boy scout group who were just getting ready to leave. We postholed our way to about 5080' along Eightmile Creek (a loooooooonngggg ways), then headed up to Jack Ridge peak at 7828'. No technical difficulties except for some postholing.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
