Road is in very good shape all the way to the trailhead. There is one extreemely rough patch about 15 feet long up the North Fork Sauk road about a mile before the trailhead, but so long as you haven't lowered your car, any passenger vehicle should make it.

Trail is in decent but not fantastic condition except for one major blow down about a mile in. I didn't have problems, but backpackers or less nimble folks might find it a bit of a challenge. The bugs are very much out at most points on the trail. We bought sawyer brand bug spray from REI after reading another post (maybe even a round lake trip report). WOW. It actually works. Only got bit twice the whole day, both times while applying the stuff. It looked like it would be miserable without some kind of protection though.

Stopped on a ridge about the round lake junction. This trail has the best view of Sloan peak. It's more striking than Glacier, and really took me by surprise even though I did this trail years ago. Didn't have time to scramble the 6500 peaks above round lake, but from the looks of it the views would be absolutely fabulous.
