Be Aware Of
  • Blowdowns

I took a solo backpack to Dumbell Lake 8/21-8/22. There are a number of blow-downs on the trail, but all are easily stepped over or walked around. The bugs were not bad, but I did use a little DEET. The fall color is beginning & the huckleberries are ripe. The recent rain also brought out quite a few nice boletus mushrooms. On Wed I day-hiked over to Beusch Lake, then up past Pipe Lake to the PCT-Cowlitz Tr junction & back. I only saw 3 other people the entire trip. And by now you should all know this summer's refrain - mostly cloudy w/20% chance of showers predicted & what I had was partly cloudy w/lots of sun & interesting skies, including clearing fog at sunrise.
