Beginning of beach walk

We learned of this hike from Craig Romano's book, Day Hiking: Olympic Peninsula. The TH is off the Diamond Point Road which is off HWY101 about 10 miles east of Sequim. There is room for 1-2 cars beside the NTI gated road. After walking the road .2 miles turn right at a Wa State Parks signed gate. The road has large areas of standing water, but one can get around them. At 1.75 miles from the TH you reach the cobble stoned beach on The Strait of Juan de Fuca. The last .4 miles of trail was constructed by WTA and goes through a forested ravine with remains of old-growth fir and cedar and lush green undergrowth. Turn right and hike 3/4 mile to Thompson Spit. We didn't seen a lot of birds, but did see a wide variety.--1 eagle, mergansers, 1 common loon, 1 heron, Harlequin ducks, 2 geese, and 2 kingfishers fishing the small pond at the spit. We met a state park ranger on our return to the TH and he told us development of the state park was ""on hold"" as available funds are needed for the upkeep of existing parks.

Lewis River Trail

South Cascades

We're at the cusp of waterfall season! With five waterfalls in a 7-mile roundtrip, this Lewis River hike is one to keep on your April-June to-do list. If you're hiking with creaky knees or kiddos, take in the magnificent, close-in Lower Lewis River Falls. If you want a longer hike with some ups and downs, venture all the way to Taidnapum Falls, 3.5 miles in.
