Looking down on Stujack Pass

SmokeyG and I hit this up on a Saturday. We probably saw about 6 other parties the whole day, some solo. It was supposed to be 50% percent cloud cover today, which we found out means that the lowlands were clear and the mountains were cloudy. Made it all the way to the top, but didn't see a thing. We waited for about an hour for it to clear, but it did not.

The trail was nice. Leave your ice axe at home. There were about 5-6 steps in total that took you through one patch of snow. It's a steep area, but I wouldn't say that slipping would take you all the way down the mountain. Besides, that snow may be gone by the time someone reads this report.

We were referring to Peggy Goldman's ""75 Scrambles"" (first edition), which rated this hike as a T1, meaning 1 out of 5 for how technical it is. I would call it T2 or maybe even T3. However... there are definitely exposed parts and there are definitely 3 or 4 tricky short moves, but the great thing about this climb is that I wouldn't call those tricky moves exposed. The exposed parts occur while walking along a nice flattish trail.

The summit squirrels will grab your food. We had issues with wasabi peanuts and one squirrel carrying off a whole graham cracker. So watch out.

Left the car at 9, got back at 5. Pretty healty pace.

At lake Metan, turn left.

We recommend the deep fried oreos at Glacier Peak Cafe in Darrington
