Spent the night at the trailhead and had a great lightening show and a small amount of rain. The morning was partly cloudy and just the right temperature for our hike to Robin Lakes. A WTA work crew had been rebuilding bridges. We met them near Hyas Lake where they were working on another bridge. Thank you for the great job you are doing. It also kept horses off the trail for a while.
The trail to Tuck was is as good a shape as can be expected and the moisture made for better footing in the steep sections compare to the years when it is dry, dusty and slippery. . The same can be said for the section to Robin Lakes. Once there we spotted a goat that had died the day before. It's kid was bleating but was soon adopted by another goat. The bugs were out at Tuck and Robin Lakes and OFF did not seem like much of a deterrent. The cool weather turned out to be our greatest ally in the bug wars.
We spent the next day hiking the area with a trip to the top of Granite Mountain (the other one) and had pretty good views in spite of the persistent clouds that would occasionally drop down and surround us. We found tracks in the snow that appear to be from a large cat and we took photos.
The plan for Sunday was to climb Trico Mountain and then scramble over to Jungfrau Lake and back. The weather had other plans as it rained and the wind blew hard most of Saturday night. Sunday the clouds were at lake level making climbing Trico less desirable. Others in the group decided that leaving a day early was a better choice so we packed up and headed back down the trail. A little over three hours and I was back at the car. Always a great destination.
