It's important to be prepared when you're out hiking Washington's rugged terrain. This section provides tips on how to stay safe, information on how and where to hike with children or dogs, ranger contacts and much more. It also highlights WTA's Guided Hikes for families and wildland protection hiking series.

  • Seasonal Hiking Information:  Seasonal tips for staying safe and finding great hikes.
  • Hiking Basics:  Ten Essentials, Hiking Etiquette and our Flora & Fauna guides are here.
  • Hiking with Children:  Information and resources about how to have fun when hiking with children, youth involvement opportunities, and more.
  • Guided Hikes:  In the summer, WTA offers special guided hikes through our Wildland Discovery Hike series and Families Go Hiking series. 
  • Ranger Station Contacts:  Web addresses and phone numbers for Forest Service Districts and National Parks in Washington, including links to their trail condition, road condition and camping pages.
