Teens on Trail 'Hike Safe' Contest

Safe Kids Snohomish County along with the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Service and Washington Trails Association are hosting a “Teens on Trail” digital media contest to urge young people to learn about the risks and protect themselves while enjoying the great outdoors. Enter the contest by July 15.

Enter the Teens on Trail “hike safe” Digital Media Contest!

Your assignment: Create an original short video, audio story, gif, blog, animation, cartoon, instagram, or other digital media piece about hiking safely.

Why? Teens between the ages of 10 and 14 are at the highest risk for injury while recreating outdoors. Your contest entry will help change that.

Your theme: Teens and hiking safety. Know your hiking basics and learn more about hiking safety for youth at “Teens on Trailon Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest website and at Safe Kids Snohomish County

Details and deadlines

The prize: a backpack packed full of the 10 essentials.

Dates: The contest begins June 23 and the entry deadline is September 30.

Eligibility: You must be between the ages of 10 to 18 to enter.

How to enter: Fill out the form below, submitting a link to your entry (on a blog, YouTube, Vine, etc.) about teens and hiking safety.

Additional requirements:

  • Your entry must be original content.
  • You'll need to be able to provide an original file of your video, photo, sound clip, animation, etc. if you win.
  • Judging will be based on message, accuracy, creativity, and entertainment value. A winner will be selected by the Forest Service and Washington Trails Association staff and notified by email on or about October 15.
  • Keep it clean. No violence, or personal attacks on people or organizations.
  • Do not violate copyright laws or use brand names or logos. (This includes music.) No endorsements, solicitations, commercial or political content.

      Paste the URL to your video, image, etc. on YouTube, Soundcloud, Vine, Flickr, etc. If you need to email your entry piece, email it to with "Teens on Trail Hike Safe Contest Entry" in the subject line. Keep emailed entries to a reasonable file size.
