Dave Schiefelbein

freelance photographer based in Seattle, Washington

What’s your Style: I like to simplify within the image frame. I try to put as few elements as possible into a composition, just enough to tell a story or make a visual impact.

Where Do You Shoot?: The bulk of my collection is from wild places in the western United States, western Canada and Alaska.

Camera(s): Nikon D-200 digital camera for people, recreation, general landscapes; Pentax 67 film camera for fine-art landscapes

How can Northwest Exposure entrants impress you? Keep it real...over manipulated and processed images generally don't enhance a photograph, they detract from it.  Do your best to capture the perfect moment at the time you click the shutter, rather than trying to create that moment later on your computer.

Don Geyer

landscape/wildlife photographer from Renton, Washington, and author of Mount Rainier, a guide to photographing in Mount Rainier National Park

What’s Your Style:  My favorite time to photograph is around sunrise and sunset.  I look for soft light and interesting details to include in my forefront.  My images typically consist of a large depth of field to lead the eye and help present the subject.

Where Do You Shoot? All over the Western United States and Canada.

Your camera(s): The Canon 5D Mark II is my primary body.  I still have a 40D that I use from time to time for wildlife and my kids soccer games.

How can Northwest Exposure entrants impress you?: Capture the mood of the image, not just the subject.  Look for interesting details and features that will enhance your image and make me wish I was there.  On the technical side, make sure your images are sharp.

Wade Trenbeath

Seattle-based freelance photographer specializing in natural landscapes and architecture

What’s Your Style:  Find or make beautiful light.  Pick a subject and a focus of every shot.  Usually my mantra is "The cleaner an image the better"  Avoid clutter.

Where Do You Shoot? Western landscapes for fun and world cities for work

Your camera(s): A Canon 5D Mark II, a Rollei Twin Lens 2.8D, Alpa plate camera and an asssortment of Holgas

How can Northwest Exposure entrants impress you? With shots that are mostly in-camera images. The less post-production the better. I don't like over-saturated and unnatural densities in photos. Be careful with HDR -- just because you can doesn't mean you should.
