Hike of the week
Whiskey Dick Wildlife Area
Desert wildflower explosion -- guaranteed! Dozens of different types and colors of flowers grow here, all against a backdrop of silvery-green sagebrush. The higher you go on this road-to-trail, the more flowers you'll see - plus Puget Sound Energy's windmills and views of the sparkling Columbia River. |

Sandy Flowers at the Beach
By steephy
I took this picture at North Beach in Port Townsend. I like how the color of the flower and the leaves contrast with the salt and pepper color of the sand. I also find this photo a little sad, just because it appears that the flowers are wilting and starting to die. I find it sad that such beautiful things like this must die, but that is the way of life.
Alert
By steephy
I took this at my boyfriend's parents house in Port Townsend. I love how alert the Doe is. I love how one ear is pink from the light of the sun filtering through it.
Sunlit Blossom
By steephy
I believe I took this picture at HJ Carroll Park, it's between Port Hadlock WA and Chimacum WA. I decided to enter this for photo of the week because I love how the sun is lighting up the bloom and a few of the leaves around it, I think the sun hitting it really makes the flower pop.
Glacier Peak Heart
By Carol B.
The snow had melted out and left this heart up near the top of Glacier Peak. I took the picture from Mt. Forgotten.
Bald Eagle at Fort Casey State Park
By Mike

High Wave Warning: 90' Waves
By Alvin Kroon
High wave warning, blue skies with clouds -- the perfect combination for wave action. While getting soaked with spray and trying to keep the camera and lens dry we witnessed spectacular surf and crashing waves. Nikon D700. ISO 200, 1/200th sec, f 16

In the Quinault River water shed
By don gregory
Sometimes the smaller streams are more spectacular than the raging rivers. The spirit is in the details. I particularly liked the quiet immovable quality of the rock amidst the constant changing flow of the water.

Snow Cones

Small pine cones seen in the snow along the Mount Washington trail. They were seen where the trail passes through a natural bowl, conferring amazing large and small views of the interior of the mountain.
View of the San Juan Islands from the Fragrance Lake Trail
By Mike
From the Fragrance Lake Trail in Larabee State Park you can get a fantastic panoramic view of The San Juan Islands. This trail can be hiked all year round. Located in The Chuckanut Mountain Range just south of Bellingham where elevations stay below two thousand feet. There is a very nice trail system here. It will allow you to park at any of the trailheads and get to any of the other trails which connect even with The Blanchard Mountain Range which is DNR Land. If you would like to hike in the winter months but don't want the snow come and check this mountain range out.
