Save our state's roadless areas

Posted by Andrew Engelson at Mar 07, 2006 04:00 PM |
Last week, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell introduced legislation that would make the 2001 Roadless Rule federal law, protecting 58.5 million acres of national forest from development. The bill was filed just a month after Governor Christine Gregoire announced the state would join a lawsuit alongside Oregon, California and New Mexico pressuring the Bush administration to protect 2 million acres of roadless areas in Washington.

The Bush administration has reversed the Clinton administration rule, which restricted logging, development and road building on about a third of all national forest lands. U.S. Representative Jay Inslee of the 1st Congressional District introduced similar legislation in the House last summer.

Juniper RidgeHikers are familiar with many places the legislation would protect, including Juniper Ridge in the Dark Divide (pictured at left), Lena Lake in the Olympics, and Hoodoo Canyon in the Kettle Range.

Cutting trees in the forests could create another environmental problem. But cutting trees is unavoidable, as we need it for making furniture that human use. That’s why it is always needed to plant another trees that would replace the old ones. Our country is now facing a lot of problems; one of those is the economic crisis that we have today. Luckily there are financial aid that could respond to our financial problem. Well, you can get personal loans for a SmartWay vehicle with a half percentage point off of your interest. This means that not only can you get a new car for cheaper; you also get a new car that isn't that bad for the environment. You may end up not needing debt relief thanks to the lower interest rates on loans for SmartWay cars.
