Elizabeth KolbertClimate change has been getting a lot of press lately, and Elizabeth Kolbert's fantastic 3-part series in the New Yorker last year was one of the clearest accounts I've ever read explaining global warming. Kolbert speaks at Seattle's Town Hall lecture hall at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, March 23 to talk about her new book on climate change, Field Notes from a Catastrophe. If you care about threats to ecosystems I highly recommend this lecture. To learn more about climate change effects on Washington state's mountains, read these articles from last year's Washington Trails on ozone levels, shrinking glaciers, and hikers and pollution.

Dog Mountain (May 23)

Dog Mountain

South Cascades

Head to Dog Mountain for Columbia River Gorge views and an explosion of wildflowers. Eager to get in shape for summer? Head straight up the mountain on the northern side. Take the slow and steady eastern flank trail to stop and smell the flowers. (See if you can spot recent work by WTA trail crews.)
