I have two
daughters--three years and six months old--and we love to get out on
the trail. Of course, when you're hiking with kids, you have to revise
your expectations a lot. But you'll soon learn to discover all sorts of
small joys: bugs under logs, throwing rocks in rivers, and the wonder
of seeing a deer in the wild. It's not perfect--you may have to turn
around after only a 1/2 mile--but it's still valuable and fun to get
kids out in the woods.Do you have kids and want to learn more about the how, where, and why of hiking?
Join me, WTA's Lauren Braden and Joan Burton--author of the new edition of Best Hikes With Kids: Western Washington--for a free talk at REI on hiking with children. We'll share tips, offer strategies, and give you a selection of great family-friendly hikes to chose from. Click here for more info.
Join us Thurs., May 18 at 7 p.m at the Redmond REI, or Sat., May 20 at 1 p.m. at the Seattle REI.
