Take the Ball Challenge and raise money for trails
When Greg Ball, former Director of Trail Maintenance at WTA and
all-around champion for hikers, passed away, he left a mandate for
hikers to continue care for the trails they love to hike. Whether
for a day or a week, he wanted all hikers to be able to work on trails
and have a great time, too.
To ensure the long-term success of WTA's trail program, he and his wife, Susan Ball, established the Greg Ball Trail Fund to build a continual source of funding for trail maintenance projects in Washington. To date, disbursements from the Greg Ball Trail Fund have helped support WTA youth camps on the Greg Ball Trail in Wallace Falls State Park and this year, they'll help us cope with storm damage recovery.
You can help Washington Trails Association build the Greg
Ball Trail Fund by taking part in the 2007 Ball Challenge. The
basic gist is that you sign up
for a day of trail work and then collect pledges from your friends,
family, colleagues and admirers in honor of your hard work. All
the money you collect goes into the Greg Ball Trails Fund. And,
the more you raise, the more super fantastic outdoor gear you can
earn. WTA will host two special work parties on May 5 and May 20
at Grand Ridge Park open only to Ball Challenge participants or you can
sign up for any trail work day in May.
Your support, as a participant or by donating to a participant's campaign, will ensure the continued success of WTA's trail maintenance program. Our goal is to raise $10,000 through this event and with the anonymous $1,000 pledge we just received, we're off to a good start! Please consider either participating or contributing. This is one event where every pledge really counts.
Ready to help? Download the Pledge Form and start your campaign today! Need more help? Call Lace Thornberg at (206) 625-1367 or e-mail lace@wta.org.
P.S. Did we mention the prizes? Raise just $25 and you'll get a copy of Lightly on the Land. Raise $250 and collect a Therm-a-Rest Trail Seat. Recruit the most sponsors and you'll sport a new Gregory backpack. Raise the most money and you'll spend your backcountry nights in a brand new OR Exped Venus II Tent. Many more prizes available! Check out the pledge form for details.
