Volunteers clearing downfall in the Teanaway

Memorial Day Weekend is now upon us and a summer full of hiking lies ahead.

Where will you venture out to this summer? Perhaps you'll hike in the Teanaway, where WTA's Volunteer Vacation crews will have cut out fallen logs to ease your journey. Maybe you will take a backpacking trip in the Hoh Rainforest and enjoy a better hike now that a WTA crew has repaired storm damage. Wherever you plan to hike, there's a good chance that a volunteer is to thank for the cleared path and quality tread.

Add to this WTA's advocacy efforts which help ensure your access to whole regions. For those who like to hike in Glacier Peak Wilderness, WTA has been working continually to restore hiker access lost due to major wash-outs on the Suiattle and White Chuck roads. It's all part of our work to serve the hiking community -- work you can support by becoming a member of WTA.

As week three of WTA's membership drive comes to a close, we send our congratulations to lucky new member, Kristan Carver of Edmonds. This summer, Kristan will be stylin' in a Foray jacket by Outdoor Research.

There's just one week to go until our sweepstakes comes to a close. As we approach the deadline, remember that online memberships will be counted through midnight on May 31 and mailed memberships must be postmarked by May 31 AND received by June 3.

Enter soon and stay tuned, we've got a pack and trekking poles from REI to give a way next week. Our final drawing will be held on June 5, when we will be awarding two Outdoor Research jackets, a 5 book set on wilderness skills from The Mountaineers Books, a Therm-A-Rest comfort system and an MSR ElbowRoom 2 tent.

Red Top Lookout

Snoqualmie Pass

Whether you're camping near Cle Elum or just want a prime picnic location for a short Saturday hike, you'll only have to climb a mile on this steep, easy-to-follow trail to get stunning views from a fire lookout (and cool alpine outhouse). It can be great for kids, but keep them close on the exposed summit.
