Stock Donations

How to make a stock transfer to Washington Trails Association.

Gifts of stocks, bonds and mutual funds to Washington Trails Association can be a tax-smart contribution. If you own stock that has appreciated in value and would like to sell it, you will pay capital gains taxes on the increased value.  However, if you donate the stock to a charitable organization, it is exempt from taxation.

Your stock donation will support Washington Trails Association’s critical work, and you will be able to deduct the stock at its full market value, generally up to 30% of your adjusted gross income.

If you hold stocks or bonds with a broker, you may transfer the securities electronically by instructing your broker to send the securities to Washington Trails Association’s account at Vanguard through the Depository Trust Company (DTC). You will need to send a letter to your broker with written instructions.
