Hurricane Ridge Road reopens Saturday

Posted by Susan Elderkin at Feb 26, 2010 01:51 PM |

In a week full of bad road news comes some good - the Hurricane Ridge Road in Olympic National Park reopens (weather permitting) tomorrow (Feb. 27). To celebrate, the park is waiving entrance fees Saturday as well.

The road was closed by a slide that wiped out both lanes of traffic on January 18th. Repairs started almost immediately, and with crews working 12 hour days, six days a week, the road is opening earlier than expected.

Hurricane Ridge is the most popular winter recreation area on the Olympic Peninsula, with miles of cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails, as well as a sledding area. The ski hill is expected to be open this weekend.

Contact the park at (360) 565-3131 for daily road updates.
