Hold off on those weekday trips to Mason Lake, Mount Defiance and Bandera Mountain.

Commercial timber thinning is closing the Mason Lake Road (FR 9031) at milepost 2.5 from March 1 to April 30. The road will be closed only on weekdays from 8am on Monday through noon on Friday. The road will be open from noon Friday through the weekend and on holidays.

The closure will block access to the Ira Spring Trail and the route to Mount Bandera, but hikers will still be able to reach the Talapus trailhead.

“The road is not safe during cutting, yarding and hauling operations while units are being thinned,” said Jim Franzel of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The thinning project affects 350 acres of second growth western hemlock, Douglas fir and western red cedar.

For updates, contact the Snoqualmie Ranger District (425-888-1421) or on the web at http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/.
