Our group split up to hike this valley trail from both the downstream FS Rd 73 (Huckleberry Creek) and upstream FS Rd 7160 (Buck Creek) ends. The trail is open to both hikers & bicyclists, & is in excellent condition, with only a few wet spots. At about 2 miles up from the lower trailhead, we took the steep, short spur up to close views of Skookum Falls, which are roaring now with snowmelt. The trail corridor features lovely old-growth forest, frequent views of the White River, and looks across the valley to Snoquera Falls. We found early season wildflowers in bloom, including calypso orchids. THEM - Olympia.

Beautiful water fall. RT 4.8 miles. We all went to the falls, there is a sign follow that to get closer to the base of the falls. A great river hike also. The trail is on good condition. Had a great day.

An easy hike on a well maintained trail up to the falls. The birds were out singing. The soothing sounds of the white river flowing by. The falls were full of water. I came across more mountain bikers than anyone else. Everyone on the trail was pleasant and seemed to be enjoying their day. There were no obstacles on the trail because it was very apparent someone had done a lot of work to keep this trail clear. All in all, it was a great day for a hike.

Hiked with the whole family to the falls and back. My 10 and 7 year-old sons hiked the trail easily. Our 3 year-old spent most of the hike on my shoulders.

The trail is mostly covered with a thin layer of snow. The path was pretty clear, except for one downed tree that we had to climb over.

Weather was partly sunny, but the high temp was probably under 50 degrees. I would bring a light pair of gloves the next time I hike this trail under the same conditions.

We stopped at Herfy's in Enumclaw for burgers and shakes on the return home. Excellent food!

So we attempted Skookum flats today from the typical trailhead of FS road 73.... the parking lot was not an option for our Subaru Outback, we tried multiple times and were able to park but it was difficult to maneuver in the deep snow and we were fearful the conditions were only getting worse.
After some thinking, we parked at the other end of the trail off what I believe is 7160...? did some trail hunting and were able to get on it after a few minutes despite fresh snow and no other human tracks.

The snow was on and off throughout the hike but easily manageable, snowshoes would have been silly. there were patched of bare ground interspersed too regularly to make them useful. The weather was chilly but we soon heated up and stripped off our outer shell and fleece to leave just our underarmour.

Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed by the falls and while we appreciated the views of the river, it was nothing great. Being as the weather was off and on with the rain, it was cold, and we were fighting swamps throughout the journey, it was not our favourite hike. Several portions of the trail were completely impassable due to several inches to a foot in some places of standing water. a bit of frog hopping and log crossing made the trip possible; however, as a 5'6" person, the hoisting onto logs was a bit more difficult than it was for my 6'2" counterpart. Was wishing I had my rainboots on so I could tread right through. Our dog on the other hand had an amazing time. She went right through the standing water and was obviously confused by our log jumping antics.

on the way out it started to get dark, we had not hit the actual trail until 1045 and made the 5.5miles just before 130pm. by 230 it was getting dark and we hurriedly whipped back through the trail to the car, had a drink at the tavern and headed home.

As I said before, not impressed by this hike. It was somewhat accessible during the winter months however and for that I am grateful, not exactly one I will be running back to soon though.
