Started our hike on Trail #878 on the east side of the dam, at 8:20 AM. Pull a small grade at the start of the trail and then it levels on out for a bit, and then the trail rolls up and down along the lake, taking you in and out of large timber, to vine maples, down into small water crossings. All the crossings on the west side of the lake had log bridges accept for one the log was washed out. We crossed any how, but there after the trail started to show signs of no maintenance at all. Many trees down over the trail varying from small to ENORMOUS. At the far east end of the lake the trail became so cluttered with downed trees we lost the trail and turned on back the way we came. Truly beautiful place to hike. Someone for more adventurous than I may have been able to press on and locate the lost trail, and made a full loop.

Got there faster than expected, as most of FR 22 has been replaced with a brand new paved road. Didn't encounter any delays, but there were signs that construction is still ongoing, and notices about road closures during the week.

Coho campground was closed for the season, so we continued a short bit on the road to a pullout, and walked to the Chetwoot "campground" (which, having no facilities or road access, we figured couldn't be "closed"). Didn't encounter a single person.

Next day we walked back counter-clockwise around the lake. Passed through the empty Coho campground and the day use area. The road across the dam was closed, so had to use the bridge just below the dam to cross. Continued along the lake, to about the same height as Chetwoot campground before turning back.

The trail was in good condition; encountered just one significant blowdown on the trail on the east side of the lake.

A Fathers day treat after camping at the lake. Started up road 2270 past Wynoochee Falls (campground destroyed in flood then trashed). About a mile or so past falls road is completly blocked by a washout that is impassable to cars, 4x4's and tanks. I returned down road crossed river and attempted to atain trailhead from the other side, saw a herd of elk. On the other side road is blocked by avalanche debris at 1800', at a large pile of bear sign. I began walking uproad, continous snow was encountered at 2000' then a margin where sun had melted snow off the southern exposure. I continued up the road which now was washed out in several places and passed other areas where rock fall had blocked the path including one van sized boulder. Upon reaching 3000' elevation snow was deep and soft and I was still miles from the trail head and turned around and went paddling. As an alternative on Sunday we walked along lakeshore trail on several sections as it is a 12 mi. loop with a difficult ford at 6 mi. The trail is a very good forest walk with nice views out to lake. There were a number of blowdowns mudholes and slides but nothing impassable for a 5 yr old.
