Trail Work Accomplishments 2010

Volunteers in 2010 turned out for 670 work parties on 148 trails all around the state. From the the Southwest Coast Wilderness Trail on the Pacific Ocean to the Salmo-Priest Loop in the very northeast corner of the state, volunteers were there building, rerouting and improving trails - logging out wind-blown trees, building bridges, boardwalk and rock walls, improving tread, hacking back brush and so much more.

Thank you to the more than 2500 hikers who volunteered on trail this year! Whether you wielded a Pulaski at one work party or 50, your work has an invaluable impact for so many hikers. And cumulatively, the effort is simply astonishing. Take a look at the map below to see the impact of the work that you and your fellow hikers accomplished in 2010.

WTA worked on trails in five national forests, two national parks, six state parks, several county park systems, the State Department of Natural Resources, and more. This year we designated ten Signature Projects that received special care. You can learn more about these special projects here.

We offered many choices to our volunteers. Most opted for one-day work parties - these volunteers worked on a whopping 94 trails. Others preferred the camaraderie of one of 29 week-long Volunteer Vacations. And the hardiest tested themselves on one of 31 Backcountry Response Teams. What's more, over ten percent of WTA's trail work is done by youth 18 and under on one-day and Youth Vacations. Click on the above links to learn details about this work.
