WTA's Trail Maintenance in 2008

Over the course of 2008, WTA volunteers have worked on four different National Forests, three National Parks, seven different Washington State Parks, two Department of Natural Resources regions, three County trails systems, the Columbia River Gorge and taken up a handful of other assorted projects. Here’s a rundown.

Have you ever hiked a beautifully maintained trail and wondered, "Who am I to thank for this fine trail?"

It's quite possible that a Washington Trails Association volunteer trail crew has  cleared blowdowns, repaired slide areas, fixed drainage issues and more on a trail that you've hiked this year. Here is a summary of our work in 2008.

Day Trips

  • Continued work with King County Parks, on projects such as the Red Cedar Trail re-route on Cougar Mountain, new trail development of the Knee Knocker and Holder Creek Trails on Taylor Mountain, and the Grand Ridge Trail, which connects High Point to Duthie Hill

  • Work with DNR to help alleviate resource damage on the Mailbox Peak Trail in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie area

  • A special project to rebuild the Barnes Creek Bridge in Olympic National Park, restoring access to an area that had been blocked for a number of years

  • Work at Beacon Rock State Park, throughout the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and along the Columbia River Gorge
