Great hike, views were a little smoked out but the hike itself made up for it. Road was completely fine.
There were 4 men who had made an open fire up on the Sahale Arm trail, which is crazy when it’s this dry and windy. We checked it out on the way down and though they’d doused it, it was still hot to the touch, so we poured another bottle of water on it. Insane to make an open fire on a day hike in this kind of weather.

Hiked 9/3/25. There were still parking spots at 7:00 am, but when I got back the lot was full with some people parking on the narrow road. The biggest problem with this place is that the road near the top is quite narrow and traffic can be a problem. The trail is dry and there is no water source until you get to the glacier, where there is a nice pool and runoff for filtering and/or cooling off. The scramble up the rocks near the top is quite sun exposed, and I would not start later than 7-8 am if you plan on going all the way to the Glacier and want a pleasant hike. As a hiker I would call this hike "moderate", but there seemed to be a lot of folks there that didn't really know what they were in for, so for a beginner, I'd say "Hard". There is a toilet at Cascade Pass, and near the Sahale Glacier campsites. I didn't use them, but you likely need your own paper. I saw grouse on the way to Cascade Pass, and picas, marmots, and a couple goats up on the Arm. I spoke to one hiker who said there had been a Black Bear and a Cub in the lower area near Cascade Pass the evening before. This was a moderate level, very beautiful hike, but honestly, for the hassle of the road, and the crowds, there are a lot of options that are equally as beautiful with less hassle.

A lot of people have talked about the road, and parking. I went on a Wednesday.
The road is much better than most people mentioned. I drive a Prius and I had no problem getting to the parking lot. Yes, there are a couple larger potholes to go around, closer to the parking lot, but they are easily avoided.
I arrived at 7:00am and the parking lot was only 2/3 full. Lots of backpackers were coming down so I'm sure spots opened up all afternoon.
The trail is in excellent shape. As always, thanks to the trail crews that make it so!

Managed to snag walk up permits to camp at Sahale glacier, what an incredible experience. Started at 5am on Labor Day, made it to Sahale glacier camp at 10am, including stops for breakfast, photos, etc. Trail is mostly pretty chill but the last 1000 ft of gain is pretty brutal, especially with an overnight pack. There was some haze from wildfire smoke but not too bad as of Monday 9/1 . Sunset and sunrise were unbelievable. We saw goats, marmots, pikas, ptarmigans, and even a mama black bear and her cub. Lots of blueberries on the trail past Cascade pass. Not much flowing water on the trail but plenty of flowing water coming off Sahale glacier at the top. Absolute magic overall
