Beware of: trail conditions

There are lots of downed trees on the trail between 0.4 to 1.0 miles that required all manner of over, under and around tactics. A couple sections had multiple trees and branches tangled together. This was my first hike on this trail and I was surprised when it ended abruptly at the bridge-viewpoint platform. There are lots of skunk cabbage popping up thru the swamps along the trail and I imagine in a couple weeks it will look spectacular.

Arriving at the trailhead, I was lead to believe that the trail was maintained through the Beaver Lakes on to the river. Perhaps if I would have read the signs more carefully I would have been ready for the official trail stopping at the Beaver Lakes.

Getting to lakes required lots of log hopping and winding around branches and limbs across the trail. I could still run the trail, but had many interruptions.

Past the end of the trail, one can bushwhack easily where the old trail once was, pink trail ribbons for the win! It leads to the river bank where one can cross a small stream in order to walk up the river bank of the Sauk.

Beautiful and remote, I was glad I came farther. Much to my chagrin, my dog was even more ecstatic to make it to the river. Dead fish are still accessible to the trained nose. He also found some other "treasures" along the way. They stayed, but the smell came home.

Took the kids and hubby out for a nice stroll. Got to the trail head and the parking lot was snowy and slushy in places but nothing the sexiest flex ever could manage with ease. The trail had a lot of downed trees on it, which made for a fun but not super difficult obstacle course of nature. The views along the Sauk were spectacular. Well worth the hike.

Trail was overgrown and quite muddy in some spots. Logs that we had to climb over. Not terrible, but probably won’t come back. The big bridge ~1.4m in was broken and not passible.
