Beware of: road, trail conditions

Just want to say thanks to the report of toilet paper on the trail and then say thanks to who ever cleaned them up. We didn't see on piece yesterday. Regarding my comment about obstacles on the trail, there are a few, but that is typical Blanca. A beautiful hike, day and lake!!

Arrived at 7:30 and maybe 10 cars in the lot. There is very clear signage about what is and isn’t allowed. The trail is in excellent condition. However, we saw lots of toilet paper in the trail and the most garbage of any trail I’ve done this summer. There were already hordes of people when we got to the lake after we passed four groups on the way up. There was a group of probably 20 day hikers already at the lake along with a couple of smaller groups. However, to our dismay there was someone camping right at the lake. Not only are there huge signs at the trailhead about no camping there are signs up there. He had a tent, stove, sleeping bag, etc. and had obviously had a campfire. It wasn’t even acceptable campsite even if camping was allowed. His tent was almost on the bright green sign that said no camping. On the way down from the hike there were a lot of unprepared struggling dogs and people for the difficulty of the hike. It’s a steep hike, so please be prepared, follow the rules and PACK everything out (including toilet paper).

Beware of: bugs

The road work is done, you’re free to drive all the way to the parking lot. Bugs were out but not biting very much. This is a hot hike with basically no water until the lake so I recommend packing 2-3 liters per person and extra for your dog!

Disappointing to see SO MUCH TOILET PAPER ON THIS TRAIL COME ON PEOPLE DO BETTER.

Beware of: bugs

I have hiked Blanca three times this year. Two of which were
winter hikes. Always up for a challenge. Those two trips I made to the top near Virgin lake. Wasn't willing to risk going to Blanca do to snow and ice on that section. Very steep and narrow.

Last week was the third trip and got to the lake with about 15 other folks their. Most people swam a bit. The water is quite cold so a quick dip for me to cool off was awesome.

The trail was in very good condition and saw some garbage but not too bad.I say that knowing any garbage is bad!!!! I always carry a small garbage bag and make a point of collecting litter on the way down. Doing a little bit of extra work so future hikers don't have to see theleft overs of irresponsible idiots. 🤣

Bugs were def an annoyance. Roadwork on the washout section is slated to begin on 7/15, so the trail might end up getting closed- but not sure. Super large potholes on the forest road, so watch out.

Lake was gorgeous! And perfect for swimming.
