We parked at Red Town Trail to hike to the falls. There are several trails and multiple falls, so we will be returning to this area again. Our 10 and 14 year old had no problems & loved Coal Creek Falls.

I'm new to hiking so I am starting with short, fairly easy hikes. This definitely falls into that category. First 3/4 of a mile you will have a consistent, moderate grade incline. If you are just starting to get into shape (like me:) you might be a tad winded, however, it doesn't last for long before the trail levels out and then starts to descend towards the falls. As for the trail, it was great. Very well maintained and even though it had been raining most of the day, the trail drained well and I only encountered a couple of muddy spots that I was able to walk around. On my way up, I passed about three groups of people coming down (I started my hike around 1:30pm). On my way down, passed two sets of couples. Overall, a nice way to spend 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

Great little 4mi loop hike into history including the waterfall! I've included 3-4min of video highlights below. Our loop as I recall took the short trail sections in this order: Red Town -> Coal Creek -> Coal Creek Falls -> Quarry -> Indian -> Steam Hoist -> Rainbow -> Red Town -> trailhead There is one place with easily stepped over treefall near the Steam Hoist Trail junction (see photo), otherwise trail is in great shape! Big Leaf Maples showing nice yellow color this year.
