The hike was beautiful! I've done this hike before but this was the first time I had my daughter (8 months) and my friends son (2 years) with me. The hike was easy enough that the 2 year old was able to do it without any help (other than getting tired the last .5 miles since it was close to his nap time). The first .8 miles is all uphill, but the incline isn't so horrible. I was able to do it easily carrying a backpack and 8 month old on my front. After the incline, it's pretty even the rest of the way to the falls, with some minor ups and downs. The trail was in great condition with very few muddy spots. There were a lot of people on the trail since the weather was great and tons of people had their dogs with them. The bugs were starting to come out but not enough to cause any bother. Great short hike, about 1.5 miles to the falls and 1.5 miles back to the trailhead.

Walked a counter clockwise loop on Cougar Mt from the Red Town trailhead hitting both the nice view point at De Leo Wall and Coal Creek Falls. Starting with Wildside, take a right on Marshall's Hill, cross the water tank access road and continue on De Leo Wall, over to the viewpoints, back around on Indian Trail, right on Quarry Trail, left on Coal Creek Falls with a stop at the falls, down Cave Hole and back around to the parking lot on Red Town Creek and Military Rd trails. Total mileage is approximately 4.8 with two nice hills for a bit of a workout, the back side of Marshall's Hill and Quarry Trail up to the turn off to the falls. The trails are generally in great shape with a few new smaller blowdown right before the De Leo wall viewpoints and the normal mud along Red Town Creek trail. The bugs are just starting to come out, still not bad at all, (though I managed to inhale a mosquito huffing and puffing up the Quarry Trail hill...>hack, wheeze<) Indian Plum and Elderberry are starting to bud out - spring is here! There were a good number of folks out looking at the falls but didn't see anybody along De Leo or Marshall's Hill. This is a relatively quick loop with lots to see and enough up/down to get the blood moving.

Trekked out to the Coal Creek Falls and around the trails with a girlfriend while she tried out her new Osprey baby carrier pack. It was the perfect rolling terrain to try out the pack without being too far from the car or taking on too much elevation gain. We walked out to the lookout to get some extra exercise. All in all a pretty and short walk out in nature. It was exactly what we needed!

What a perfect rainy day hike! We got to the trailhead around 10 am and the lot was almost full. We did the Red Town/Cave Hole/Coal Creek/Quarry Loop, which was a little shy of 3 miles. The falls and creek were absolutely gorgeous and flowing pretty heavy. The trail was in great condition, but has some mud that may require a step around to avoid.
