I was in Bellevue for business early this morning. I planned to check out the trails on Cougar Mountain to have some fun after my business was completed. I hiked the Red Town Trail to the Quarry Trail to Coal Creek Falls, and then followed the Quarry Trail to the Cave Hole Trail back to the TH. The creek and falls were flowing well and photographed quite nicely. There are plenty of hikers and runners on this urban park, which reminds me of Chuckanut Mountain.

At the start of the trailhead from the parking lot, follow the Red Town Trail up a hill for about 0.2 mile. After that you see a sign for Coal Creek Falls and follow that path uphill for about 1.0 mile. Then you will see another sign for Coal Creek Falls to your left for about 0.3 miles downhill and you will see the fall.

Loop of the Red Town, Cave Hole trail to Coal Creek Falls.  Lots of water flowing through the falls.  This is a great hike for late fall and winter as the falls really have some good flow.

First ever hike with the whole family including the dog! One scraped knee, but everyone enjoy the beautiful little waterfall.

My boyfriend, 6 month old German Shepherd, and I were looking for a hike that wasn't too intensive and would just be a way to get some nature therapy on a Sunday. I'm glad that I've had this hike saved and was finally able to try it! It's very easy to get to - normally I have to bust out my GPS but I found it just fine with the WTA directions. The parking lot has plenty of room, a little informational kiosk, and even complimentary dog bags which I appreciated. The trail itself is very well maintained and very wide, which is perfect for those busy days. We came later in the afternoon so we didn't have to deal with passing people too often. There were a few times where I had to catch my breath, but all in all there weren't really any steep parts and I'd say this hike is perfect for kids (saw a lot along the way) and dogs. :) Unfortunately, the falls were dried up! There was a bit of water running through, you could just barely hear it, but no falls in sight. My dog loved playing in the little creek that was available, though. Even though we didn't get to see the falls, I still really liked the hike.
