The Trail was in great condition and the singae is very clear and easy to follow. I had 18 kids out on the hike and though its steep heading there its a great and quick walk back! Also know that the falls are a trickle due to the lack of rain and being well into summer! Lastly, know that the Porta-potty's at the trail head are in serious need of attention ... almost unusable!!! Happy Trail's G-Raf

Great hike with kids. Met a few other people, but not an extremely busy trail. Falls were running. Huckleberries ripe along trail. Very green and pleasant. Parking had enough space for many cars.

We took the loop that starts with the Cave Hole Trail to the Coal Creek Falls Trail and returns via the Quarry Trail and the Red Town Trail. The Cave Hole Trail, a forest road actually, gains elevation steadily until the turn-off to the Coal Creek Falls Trail which becomes an actual trail which meanders to the falls. It is a very pleasant trail. On the first of June the waterfall is a gentle flow rather than the rushing torrent of winter. I’ll probably come back next winter when the falls are at their peak. The route back is much more picturesque than the Cave Hole Trail and I would consider taking that out and back next time. There is an area off the Red Town Trail, the Meadow Restoration project where we saw a profusion of what looked like Ranunculus acris ‘Meadow Buttercups’ and a wild purple Iris, possibly Iris germanica. The Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is crisscrossed with trails so there are lots of hiking options. There is also an information kiosk at the trail head parking lot that has free maps of the entire trail system within the park. I took one virtual reality panorama of Coal Creek Falls. Here is the link to view it in a pano viewer: Coal Creek Falls: https://www.360cities.net/image/coal-creek-falls-cougar-mountain-regional-wildland-park-wa#-88.87,4.51,70.0

Very nice easy hike, trails are wide and in good condition. Thought it was sort of odd that there were 4 large shuttle buses of people in the lot. The falls were very small.

For a full trip report with more photos check out our blog! http://bobbyandmaura.com/hikes/coal-creek-falls This trail, once notorious for it's muddy conditions has been beautifully cleaned up by WTA volunteers! A new reroute should keep your shoes relatively clean! We found ourselves passing only a few other groups after leaving the Red Town Trail, because this isn't peak season for seeing Coal Creek Falls. There wasn't a lot of water running but it was still a pretty culmination to the hike! Being 8 months pregnant this was a great, gentle hike that I was easily able to do without discomfort! This would be a great hike to do with kids! There are 2 privies, garbage cans, historical interpretive signage, picnic table and doggie bag dispenser at the trailhead. While the parking lot is large, it was almost completely full when we arrived and was overflowing when we left. A warning that the trail is lined with lots of stinging nettle in spots so be sure to keep those kiddos close! There were also lots of wildflowers blooming!
