I took an afternoon walk in Cowiche Canyon today. I walked from the east end up around the Bypass Trail to bridge 8 and back. The fall color was magnificent. There is more orange than I ever remember in here, mostly from the wild cherries (Chokecherry & Bittercherry). It's close to its peak right now and should be good for the next couple of weeks. The afternoon was cloudy, calm, & cool, perfect conditions for the kind of photos I like to take.

We were on a fun wine tasting weekend in Yakima with our dog, so had to do one of my favorite hikes! We arrived at the Summitview Trailhead around 9:30AM, and there were only several cars there. This is the trailhead that the map link on wta takes you. The weather was perfect! We hiked to the far parking lot called Cowiche Canyon East Trailhead and back, and also took the side trail to the winery. We planned our hiking start time with the winery hours. It’s such a fun side trip and really beautiful, and the wine is good!
The trail wasn’t crowded at all. The fall colors are popping out now! Lots of red sumac and other plants I can’t identify. It’s going to get even more amazing in the next week or so. We didn’t see any snakes. We clocked 7.5 miles. What a perfect day!

I took an afternoon walk at Cowiche Canyon on this partly cloudy, mild day. I walked from the Scenic trailhead down into the canyon, up to bridge 8, then back around the By-Pass trail to the abutments for the old bridge 10, then back to my truck. The canyon is starting to color up nicely and in a week or so should be spectacular. There were lots of others out the trails enjoying this beautiful autumn afternoon.
