We began our walk in Cowiche Canyon at the Weikel Road TH and walked about 2 1/2 miles to the aspen grove near the Eastern TH. We saw one biker and about 12 hikers. Fall colors are past their prime, but are still beautiful! The aspen trees at our turn-around point had lost most of their leaves.

My first time doing any hiking in the Yakima area. First time ever hearing about Cowiche. Beautiful landscape very close to civilization. The beetles were every two feet. The fall colors were epic. I'm glad I brought a lot of water--it's dry out there! Some of the photos attached (unedited) give a general feel for the place. There wasn't that much human activity. I also saw my first rattlesnake on this hike. Did the entire Eastern section, including the wine trail (out and back).

I took a walk in Cowiche Canyon on this warm, sunny afternoon. I walked into the canyon from the Scenic Dr trailhead. The fall color is at its peak right now, or maybe even a little past, but it's still spectacular! There were quite a few others out enjoying this beautiful afternoon and I even saw a little wildlife: I climbed off the trail down to the creek at one point and saw a water ouzel, a little later at a different spot I saw an otter swim across the creek and climb up the bank into the brush. And finally, at bridge 8, a great blue heron posed for me for at least 10 minutes and was still there when I left. What a gift!
