Instead of hiking very far on a miserably hot day, I opted to get a video of this delightful short interpretive trail, small children friendly for sure!  Even ran into Ranger Lynne giving a tour to a couple families with small children.

(video link below)

Wildflowers: pink & white mountain heather, cinquefoil, valerian, pearly everlasting

Highly recommended if you are at Mount Baker with little ones!

We took a day trip up Mt Baker to play in the snow and cool off. There was plenty of snow at Artist's Point, less on the Fire and Ice trail. The paved section of trail out to the overlook is snow free but the dirt tail looping back around to the pit toilet trailhead is still under snow. This is one of our favorite trails with out without snow and highly underrated. It is short and sweet with fantastic views of Table Mountain, Upper and Lower Bagley Lakes sparkling below, wildflower meadows, great examples of columnar basalt, and views to the valley and boarder peaks. Check it out the next time you are on Baker!

This summer, my four-year-old son and I are hiking to raise money for Washington Trails Association. Please consider donating to one of our Hike-A-Thons at the below links. Thank you and Happy Hiking!

Few cars were in the parking lot around 9:00 am. Great view of the table mountain. Wish I could come back for it.

Fun little loop. We've hiked around that area, but never took the interpretive loop. We visited Artist's Point with an out-of-town friend, and wanted to stretch our legs more. It was smoky, but the views were still nice, and it's generally less crowded feeling than at the top. 7-year-old kid liked it, especially making some snowballs. Snow over the trail, but made the short loop more fun and interesting. It was also about 80 degrees and I did the walk in my sandals. It was good to cool my toes in the snow.
