A friend and I and my dog hiked this trail today and it was pretty awful to be honest. Very buggy next to the wetland areas (which is to be expected, but it was BAD). The trail was very very overgrown in places and at one point we couldn't even find the trail and decided to turn back, even though the trail is supposed to be a loop. We came back to my dog covered in ticks so that was fun to deal with. It is a neat trail if you don't mind the bugs and if you can navigate your way to find the trail. The wetlands are flooded over the main trail so we had to go off trail at some places. Mother nature sure gave us a mental challenge with this trail today! The trail head is also not marked at all so it is difficult to find, we ended up driving past it the first time. Just is a bundle of gates and fences with a big round metal cow water trough. Good luck to anyone who wants to take on this challenge!

I love it when the weather report is wrong in our favor!  The 90-100% chance of rain in the forecast didn't really materialize, and we had a lovely day for trailbuilding at Fishtrap Lake.  After the work party ended, and since it was so gorgeous outside, I went over the the Scroogie Loop for a post-workparty trail run.  The loop is just a little over 2.5 miles, but I was tired from trailwork so that was just about right.

Tonight's hike with the Spokane Mountaineers was a warm visit to a very overgrown trail at Fishtrap lake.

After we concluded our trailwork at nearby Fishtrap Lake, I decided to go check out the Scroggie Loop on the other side of the lake. This separate piece of BLM property doesn't connect to the trail system on the north side of the lake, and as I hiked the main trail, I also never got close enough to see the lake. I'm not sure if it's possible to see the lake from some of the high points on the edges of the property, but sticking to the main trail also yields some good views. The trail consists entirely of old farm roads, marked with carsonite trail markers. There are other farm roads that could be incorporated into one's wanderings, but I stuck to the main trail since this was the conclusion of a long day on trail. My GPS watch had the complete loop at exactly 3 miles. I saw several mule deer on my hike, none of which stuck around long enough to let me take their picture. There are also several wetlands, all of which had birds. The flowers are out now, and will only get better. I noticed a lot of wild irises, none of which are in bloom yet, but which should be spectacular once they do get started. This trail is close to several other nice hikes, so if it's too short, just add another of the nearby trailheads: Fishtrap proper, Folsom Farm, or Hog Canyon are all quite close.

Did this one and Hog lake today. Was hoping for blue sky, but it was rainy and cloudy. This hike is also muddy but easy to follow. This hike may also be a great one for spring.
