We went up to do the Evergreen Fire Lookout but there was some tree removal going on. The rangers suggested this trail. It’s located right at Jacks Pass behind the closed gate.
The trail is still listed as under construction BUT it seemed fine.
Peek a boo views on the way up. Views from the top were 360 degree all around.
GPS said we did 8.5 miles round trip. Elevation was a steady climb all the way to the top. Maybe around 1500-2000 feet of gain.
Good alternative to what we wanted to do in the same area.

26jul2022 TUE morning .. i had a very nice weather window (free from the 90+_F Heat Wave) ramble of Frog Mountain (thanks to the many recent accurate reportings; esp that from Pribbs .. i downloaded and followed Pribbs's Gaia track/route .. 👍

It was "exposed" at the Frog Mountain summit, but generally good shade (cool ~70s_F) during my ~4 hours (06:45 - 10:45) on the trail. It was buggy throughout my ramble, especially bad at the summit when i was "stationery" for a few minutes - enjoying the views of the mountains and taking pictures .. 😅

i was the only at the Trailhead parking at ~06:45. And when i got back ~10:45, there was another vehicle parked beside mine; it probably belongs to the 2 young women whom i encountered when i was returning (~1 mile) from the Parking. When i was almost back at the Parking, i saw the FS Ranger driving in. They were the only 3 people that i saw during my ~4 hours on the trail. They were cheery and friendly 😀 Heard some birds chirps, a sprinkling of wildflowers, but saw no wildlife.

The "work-in-progress" Trail was slightly-damp -to- dry; well-built and in good condition. You may want to read those other recent reports (of Frog Mountain) for more details about the Trail.

Between US2 and Jack Pass : Beckler Road (FS 6500000): generally 2 Lanes. And the (first) ~6+ miles of paved, and the next ~6+ gravel road .. (only) had some minor "dips" .. Anyway, its still good driving condition;  .. imho, its probably, one of the best FS road that i had driven .. Thank y'all NF 👍

Happy Trails Everyone, Be Safe and Stay Hydrated 😇

This is a great new trail! Although the WTA description indicates it is still "under construction," the trail is in good shape - but looks like they just need to complete the trailhead area. For a detailed description of access to the trail, see the 7/10/2022 report by "raring2hike".

We left Seattle at 6am in an effort to beat the worst of the heat. Got to the TH about 8:15. The trail is in excellent shape, especially the lower 2/3 that are in the woods. Higher up the trail narrows and is less well defined, but not hard to follow at all. There is no water available, no snow.

We were treated to fabulous views of Glacier Peak & Monte Cristo Peaks to the N and NE. Views of Hinman/Daniel & Mt Rainier to the south.

This relative new trail is technically still under construction but it feels quite complete right now.  According to Craig Romano, when the Wild Sky Wilderness was established in 2008, they made a deal with other user groups to build a couple of trails just out side the wilderness boundary for multiuse.  I'm pretty sure that the trail is being built for horse standards but only the first half is completed to this standard.  The second half is a wonderful narrow width, perfect hiking trail.  I would be more than happy if they left the trail just the way it is.  I don't think there's been any work done on the trail since last year.  Maybe they are waiting for more funding?

Others have decribed how to find the trailhead so I wont repeat it.

Very nice steep lush green meadows on the last mile with great views.

Drive up Beckler River Road and park at the big road junction at Jack's Pass. Walk up the road with the old metal gate and it leads to an old gravel pit that is being converted to the trailhead for this hike. Look for the boulders that are placed in a row and the trail begins behind them.

The trail begins in nice forest that thins as you get higher. First you get views of Bear Mountain and the North Fork Skykomish River, then south over the Beckler River toward Mt. Daniel, Hinman, Chimney Rock. As you enjoy the views, beware of a stretch of trail that has numerous critter holes. Flowers are in bloom with lupine and tiger lilies leading the way. The trail ascends up through lush fern meadows and reaches the ridge where you get a great view of Columbia, Kyes, and Glacier Peaks. We made it to the top of the trail in about 2 hours. From the top of the trail, the true summit is actually the higher forested point to the west, so we headed over to tag the top. 8 miles and 2300 feet of gain. The trail is never steep at all. No water sources so plan accordingly!
