Arrived at 1 pm Tuesday just as the sky opened up and started pouring, so my 9 year old son and I sat in the car and waited it out. The rain stopped and the sun broke through around 1:40, so we started up and made it to the top in 45 minutes even with a snack and water break at the midway viewpoint.
Despite the downpour, the thick forest coverage and well-maintained trail meant walking up had great traction - no muddy sections. There are some very cool trees to look at on the way up, like a hollowed-out trunk my son could stand in and a couple of tipped-over giants with their roots exposed. And of course the view from the ledge is amazing.
Despite having seen two other cars at the trailhead, we were the only hikers on the trail and had the ledge to ourselves for half an hour before rain threatened again. The downpour restarted about halfway back to the car, but the trees provided quite a bit of shelter. (Don’t get me wrong though, we still got soaked!)
Son had wanted to play in the shallow area of the creek by the trailhead after the hike, which we’ve done on previous trips here, but due to the rain we skipped it this time. On a hot day, consider dipping your feet after your hike!

Perfect hike for kids (3, 6 and 7) m - just long and uphill enough to feel like an achievement without turning into a slog, with a sweet payoff at the top. There were about 3-4 other parties on the trail on a Sunday afternoon. Road is fully paved until a few hundred meters from the parking lot.
