Got to the trailhead a little after 7am and expected it to be crowded, but was pleasantly surprised to see only one car there. Trail was in great condition and didn't see anyone on the way up, or on the Ledge. Bugs were of no concern. After spending some time on the Ledge, we made our way back down and got to the parking area around 8:45am and saw that a few more cars had arrived.

We then tried to head down the Pratt River Connector Trail but that trail was still closed due to construction.

It was perfect combining this with Pratt Balcony. We started from the Gateway Bridge parking lot and took the 0.7mi Taylor River Connector trail to the trail head.

The trail is in excellent condition. It is well cared for.

Beware of: trail conditions

With a WTA work party ending early, I decided to leverage my drive down the Middle Fork road with a hike up to the Garfield Ledges on a perfect day.

The trail is passable but there are a couple of trees down near the switchbacks below the big stairs.

Took advantage of the break in the weather to get the kids out on the trail. This was recommended by a friend and we gave it a shot.

The road is great- I still can't believe how well-done Middle Fork is now. Just after the Taylor River bridge you hit 15+ potholes in a matter of yards before parking at the trailhead - just enough to share stories about the old road "back when I was your age...".

Trail itself winds upwards to the ledges. Some switchbacks and some stairs, mostly through the trees on excellent tread. Good birdsong throughout (Varied Thrush, Western Tanager, and Hammond's Flycatcher all starred) and a decent amount of solitude. Pretty cloudy at the top which limited views but there would be a great view down the Middle Fork valley.
